I came across the beautiful Ryes war cemetery  during a holiday in July 2008. I was driving east from Bayeux and heading towards Juno landing beach for the day. In the vast expanse of open countryside and fields, this cemetery shone in the mid-morning brilliance of the sun. It really stood out. I just had to stop to look around.

My only regret was not taking enough photographs of the cemetery itself.

  1. I’m looking at this site today as my uncle is buried here. He also died on 30th June 1944. His name was Ronald Dawson and he was 22years old. I visited his grave on 3oth June 2004 but was unable to return this year much as I would have liked to.
