The theme of this week’s photographic challenge is muse – a prompt to showcase our favourite photographic subject and that interest that keeps us coming back to take more.
Coinciding with the centenary of the start of the First World War last year, my main subject matter has been local war memorials. The photography side, research and documentation of them has been a great combination for me; fitting nicely around a busy schedule. When I’ve not been able to go out and shoot; I’ve been busy post-processing my images, restoring portraits of the fallen or publicizing my detailed research.
This image shows the single figure of a soldier holding his rifle and his tin helmet aloft. It stands on a stone monument with bronze panels affixed to three of its sides. They record the names of the local men from Abertillery who fell in the Great War. The Abertillery war memorial is located at the junction of Somerset and Queen Streets.
